DME Capital Improvements
Denton Municipal Electric Capital Improvements Program (2013-2021)
To support growth and improve electric reliability, Denton Municipal Electric (DME) launched a multi-year Capital Improvements Program. As the Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing consultant, Geotex provided engineering services over the course of eight years for 16 new substations, 26 miles of high-voltage transmission lines and the new Denton Energy Center power plant.
One key project included the Cooper Creek transmission line segment, where Geotex conducted subsurface investigations to assess soil and bedrock conditions. Our recommendations guided the design and construction of tower foundations, ensuring stability and performance.
Geotex drill crews performed soil borings up to 50 feet deep, with lab testing to determine engineering properties. During foundation installation, our team monitored drilled shaft construction, verifying depth, reinforcing steel, and concrete quality. Concrete testing ensured compliance with strength and durability standards.
Through our expertise in geotechnical engineering and materials testing, Geotex helped DME build a modern, high-capacity electric infrastructure to support the City of Denton’s growing energy needs.
