Core Scientific's Data Center
As part of our 15 Notable Projects Countdown, we’re proud to highlight Geotex’s contributions to the Core Scientific Data Center, a major addition to the digital infrastructure landscape in Denton, Texas.
Project Overview
Established in 2022, the Core Scientific data center in Denton, Texas spans 31 acres and includes 30,000 square feet of built space. With an initial energized capacity of 125 megawatts and scalability up to 298 megawatts, it’s designed to support the intensive demands of modern computing, data processing, and digital mining operations. Built for durability and high efficiency, the facility delivers reliable performance year-round — even amid the challenging climate conditions common to North Texas.
Geotex’s Role
Geotex provided a full suite of geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing services for this high-capacity site, helping ensure a stable and long-lasting foundation for the data-driven operations inside.
Our services included:
- Geotechnical investigations for proposed substations, data center buildings, pavements, and drive areas
- Estimations of potential vertical movement and evaluation of foundation bearing capacity
- Subgrade preparation recommendations to mitigate movement and improve durability
- Pavement design guidance for long-term performance under heavy-use conditions
- Field and lab materials testing during construction of:
- Three large data warehouse buildings
- A technology center
- A guard shack
- Equipment pads and related site utilities
Looking Ahead
With the rapid growth of data center construction across Texas and beyond, Geotex is poised to expand our footprint in this critical sector. Our experience at Core Scientific underscores our commitment to supporting resilient, high-performance infrastructure for the digital age.
